A group for all Thomas & Friends fans, but especially Edward the Kind Engine.
Yeah, since this group is still in existence, I might as well get back to updating it once in awhile.
Anyhow, most Thomas fans know that the Thomas & Friends show has received a massive improvement in writing thanks to Andrew Brenner becoming head writer in season 17, albeit with Edward not having an episode to himself. With the much anticipated season 18 now being rolled out, Edward finally has an episode to himself again. And Wow. Just WOW.
If anyone remembers the Thomas children's book, Catch Me If You Can, they'll probably see a reference to it here! It felt like a combination of that, A Cow on the Line, and Edward Helps Out.
But overall, this is a very strong episode and yet another prime example of thorough writing by Brenner. I loved the reintroduction of Edward and his branch line, which I'm guessing will be more in focus now since Reg is part of it now. As far as being in character, I think it's quite appropriate that Edward is a bit playfully (and quite humorously) sarcastic and maybe a tad intolerant (since everyone gets like this once in awhile), but he still does the kind thing in the end. It's really not much different from how he was in season 1 and 2, and makes his character much stronger personally compared to how weak he's almost always been portrayed as from seasons 8 to 16. Gordon feels pretty accurately written, and definitely Thomas as well, especially Thomas' hilarious dialogue - "You're not going so quickly yourself, Gordon..." In fact, this episode really excels in dialogue humor from all three characters.
The only downside to this otherwise excellent episode may be that Gordon is antagonized a bit too much towards the end, but it doesn't really deter the overall flow of the story itself.
For nostalgic fans pointing out little details, by the way, the Tidmouth Sheds scene looked SO much like the ending scene in A Cow on the Line!
In the end, I really think this is a standout episode for the season already and it is Edward's best episode in years. Best of all, I can gladly say that Edward is back to being my favorite character 100% now. This pleases me to no end. 9/10
